Sunday Night Soul

 In Spirit

I have had the benefit throughout my life, but especially during a period of 2012-2013, of spending much time in both India and on the United States East & West Coasts. Through those adventures, I have learnt much, and been very inspired by certain spiritual practises and communities. Back in August, I was at an incredible Kundalini workshop stateside, when half way through, I just knew that I needed to create a weekly happening in London called Sunday Night Soul. The idea was to bring together some beautiful practices and energy in a candlelit environment, making space for a community to come together.

I was inspired not only by the teachings, and the level of openness in talking about our relationship with spirit that I experience in the states but actually also by some events that I came across. In India, I came across a group called Awakin, that hold mediations all over the world on Wednesday night’s that anyone can attend and are followed by a meal. I met some wonderful people at these events in Ahmedabad. In San Francisco, I came across a whole new era of community living. In particular, a house called The Embassy, that is run by some members of my SF Burning Man family. On Sunday nights they host open dinners that anybody can attend. I went to one of these when I was there, and it was beautiful. A sunday night when everyone has a reason to stay in, and often waste the evening. In fact I was staying at the house, and just wanted to chill out but people started arriving, some early to cook, others with pre made meals, and some with a bottle of wine. I got up, headed to the shops and then made a salad. It was such a lovely evening, and I woke up on the Monday morning feeling inspired, full of love and ready for a rocking week. It made me feel sure that Sunday night was a good one to reclaim as something too precious to waste in front of the telly dreading the week ahead.

And so here we are, Sunday Night Soul, every Sunday night here in London. I find that this city, my home, can be a more challenging environment for this kind of thing because we are definiately a more cyncial bunch than the Yanks, and the Indians.. but that’s just another reason why we need this soulful time together. And over a month in, I can tell you, it is already my favourite part of the week.

I waited to begin, until Diwali, which is a powerful time in the Indian Calendar for setting new intentions and new beginnings. On the first day of the Indian New Year (the last day of the Diwali festival), I held a gathering in my home which was really the first Sunday Night Soul. The following week, I officially began with this offering in a wonderful studio in Hackney, London Fields Yoga.

You are invited.
