SUMMARY:Empower & Breathe: Fashion Revolution Week Yoga Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an empowering practice themed around our ability to impact the world around us. Over the evening\, we will chant mantra\, practice asana and come to understand what we can do as yogis to wear our values. \nOn 24 April 2013\, 1133 people died in the Rana Plaza catastrophe in Dhaka\, Bangladesh. A further 2500 were injured. They were killed while working for familiar fashion brands in one of the many ‘accidents’ that plague the garment industry. This was a catalyst for the Fashion Revolution campaign\, which brings many people together worldwide to transform the industry. Ahead of Fashion Revolution Day on April 24th 2016\, we will be taking photos of us in our yoga clothes and sharing them online with the companies who made them\, asking a simple question – Who Made My Clothes? \nThe money raised from the evening will be donated to the charity TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development). Many of the children of garment workers in Bangladesh do not have birth certificates which means they are not recognised as Bangladeshi citizens and have no access to schools or health care and there is no proof of how young they are when they work in the factories. Our donations will directly go to the birth registration of these children. \n \n  \n  \nEveryone welcome \nSuggested Minimum Donation – £15 \n  \nLimited edition climate neutral yoga vests will be available on the night! (or online here) \nBook tickets here: \n  \n\n \nPowered by Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Empower & Breathe: Fashion Revolution Yoga Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Inside Out Yoga – Who Made Your Clothes? for Fashion Revolution Day \n\nOn 24 April 2013\, 1133 people died in the Rana Plaza catastrophe in Dhaka\, Bangladesh. A further 2500 were injured. They were killed while working for familiar fashion brands in one of the many ‘accidents’ that plague the garment industry. \nOn Fashion Revolution Day we turn our clothes inside out so our labels are in full view\, and ask a simple question. Who made your clothes? \n \nHave you ever thought about who made your yoga and workout clothes? #whomadeyourclothes \nJoin yoga teacher and Fashion Revolution board member Amisha Ghadiali for a yoga session with a difference. Come to the mat with your clothes inside out (labels proudly showing)\, for an uplifting class themed on our power to change the world around us and create more freedom in our lives. \nWe will then be refreshed with a smoothie and snacks\, and hear from designers of yoga and fitness brands telling us a bit about who made their clothes\, and how we can support shifts in this part of the industry. \nManuka Life \nSpeakers: \nSarah Mac\, Creative Director of Manuka Life \nLaurie Nouchka\, Designer \nNo prior experience of yoga\, or sustainable fashion needed. Yoga Beginners welcome\, and low down on how we can change the world through what we wear will be provided. \nLaurie Nouchka \nSpaces are limited so book your place here.   \nDonations from ticket sales and raffle will go to READ\, a small NGO in India which partners with TRAID in the UK. In Tamil Nadu The Sumangali Scheme takes young girls below 14 years old to work in the mills for international brands until they are 18. They convince their parents they must do this so there is money for their marriage dowry. The girls are then trapped working long hours\, in terrible conditions without holidays….making our clothes. READ work to take the girls out of the mills and into education so they can be empowered and change their destiny. \nThis event and the raffle will be directly supporting one family in their search for justice for their daughters and to stop this happening to other girls.

This family lost two daughters through The Sumangali Scheme. One was raped by a group of mill supervisors and died (sexual abuse is not uncommon in the mills). Her older sister committed suicide two days later (her family think it may have been because she felt like she should have protected her younger sister).

This is not an isolated incident. There have been other mysterious deaths in the mill\, but no investigation has taken place. The money from this event will go to this family so that they can take legal for their daughters and make enough noise to launch an official investigation. \n \nAbout Fashion Revolution – OUR MISSION:
WE BELIEVE IN FASHION – AN INDUSTRY WHICH VALUES PEOPLE\, THE ENVIRONMENT\, CREATIVITY AND PROFITS IN EQUAL MEASURE\, AND IT’S EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THIS HAPPENS. www.fashionrevolution.org \nThe Venue – Thank you to Choolips Studio for partnering with us by donating their amazing space for this event. \nThe Smoothie – Thank you to Rooted London for making us smoothies at a special price. \nThe Snacks – Thank you to Bounce Bars for donating some yummy bars. \nThe Goodies – Thank you to Positivitea London for giving us something special to take home. \nThe Raffle – Thank you to Shanti Sundays\, People Tree\, Yoga Will Save The World and Amisha Jewellery for each donating amazing ethically produced prizes. And to Movement for Modern Life for donating a one year subscription! \nIf you can’t make the event\, you can still buy a raffle ticket!  \n*** Everyone has donated their time and skills to make this happen. The money from your ticket will all go to READ apart from a small amount that will go to Rooted London to cover the ingredients for the smoothies *** \nJoin the facebook event and help spread the word. Blog post with more info about why I am doing this\, here. \nBOOK YOUR PLACE OR BUY A RAFFLE TICKET HERE – Tickets are £25 (and include smoothie\, snack and raffle ticket)
